Elizabeth Maitland scales the heights of Murrayfield Stadium

On 16th May 2026, Elizabeth Maitland, one of our fantastic Field Rehabilitation Managers, took fundraising to new heights… quite literally.

Elizabeth visited the iconic Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh where she abseiled an eye-watering 98 feet from the stadium roof to the pitch below. Scotland’s largest stadium can hold more than 67,000 spectators, but thankfully for Elizabeth, most of them weren’t there to witness her negotiating gravity face-to-face.

To put 98 feet into perspective, that’s the same height as Rio’s iconic Christ the Redeemer statue, or, for those who prefer wildlife documentaries to geography lessons, about the length of a fully grown blue whale. Either way, it’s a very long way down.

As for how she felt about it? “I have never been more terrified in my life but what a blast!” and we suspect those two emotions arrived in exactly that order.

While many of us enjoy watching events from the comfort of the stands, Elizabeth decided the better option was to step off the roof and descend towards the pitch on a rope. It’s certainly a bold approach to fundraising, and not one we’re expecting to see added to everyone’s development plan anytime soon.

Despite the nerves, Elizabeth conquered the challenge and helped support our charity fundraising campaign in spectacular fashion. A huge congratulations and thank you to Elizabeth for her courage, determination and willingness to take a leap of faith for a great cause.

When someone asks how far our teams will go to support charity, ‘98 feet straight down’ is now a perfectly acceptable answer.
